Every brand name has a story.
Some are born in boardrooms after long discussions. Others begin in far simpler and more unexpected places - in silly moments from childhood, school corridors, shared jokes and memories that refuse to fade.
The name P.U.Dinding (and yes - it’s pronounced Pe-U-DING-DING. Once you say it out loud, it’s hard not to smile) certainly didn’t come from a boardroom.
Long before it became a brand, it was simply a running joke between a group of school friends in Bangalore. Back then, a handful of schools in the city brought together children from all sorts of backgrounds - different cultures, different languages, and accents that certainly gave every conversation its own rhythm.
The corridors were lively places.
Full of chatter, harmless teasing, and the kind of playful banter that only really exists in the spaces between classes. Somewhere between those conversations, one particularly silly joke began to stick - the kind that made absolutely no sense to anyone outside the circle, but never failed to make everyone laugh.
It usually began with someone asking a very simple question.
“Go on then… can you spell pudding?”
What followed was never just a spelling exercise. With the rhythm and melody that certain accents naturally carry, the word would suddenly turn into something far more entertaining. Almost in chorus they sang.
“Peeee-U-DING-DING… in jing jing!”
And just like that, the room would erupt in laughter. Then someone else would immediately jump in to add to the theatrics:
“Hey, we’re not making fun… we’re just k-i-ding-ding… in jing jing! (kidding)”
It was silly, completely carefree, and the kind of joke that made perfect sense only to the group sharing it. The sort of playful nonsense that belongs in school corridors - and somehow stays with you long after those days are gone.
Years later, when the idea for this brand began to take shape, that old memory resurfaced - the sound of it, the playfulness of it, and the way it made people smile the moment they said it out loud.
It felt familiar. Light-hearted. A little mischievous.
And before long, what had once been an inside school joke found a new life as the name of something much bigger.
That’s how P.U.Dinding came to be.
And yes - go on, say it out loud. It’s very hard NOT to say it twice. After all, DING-DING does have a rather nice Ring… Ring… to it.
